Chamber of Commerce to Host Two Legislative Coffees and City Charter Forum

Brookings, S.D. – The Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce Public Affairs Committee will hold two Legislative Coffee events during the 2025 Legislative Session, both sponsored by Brookings Economic Development Corporation, Vision Brookings, and Kool Beans Coffee. The purpose of these events is to allow area residents an opportunity to become better informed about the 2025 legislative session and our legislator’s position on current issues and bills.

Logistics are as follows:

- Saturday, February 1 at 9:00 AM – District 7 legislators will be hosted at the City-County Government Center (530 3rd Street, Brookings), third floor Chambers. The session will be followed immediately by a forum on the City Charter.

- Saturday, February 22 at 9:00 AM- both District 7 and 8 legislators will be hosted at the City-County Government Center (530 3rd Street, Brookings), third floor Chambers.

Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce President & CEO, Kelsey Doom, says “This is one of the most important services the Chamber of Commerce provides to our Brookings County communities. This gives constituents a direct line to their representatives, as well as a voice in what is happening at the state capitol.”

This year, the first Legislative Coffee on February 1 will be followed by a forum on the City Charter, giving the public a chance to learn more about the changes to be voted on by the public this Spring. The Charter Review Commission was created on June 25, 2024, for the purpose of reviewing the Brookings City Charter and proposing amendments to the City Charter by report to the City Council.

District 7 Legislators include Rep. Mellissa Heermann (R), Rep. Roger DeGroot (R) and Sen. Tim Reed (R). Our District 8 Legislators include Senate Majority Leader Sen. Casey Crabtree (R), Rep. Tim Reisch (R), and Rep. John Mills (R).

Area residents are encouraged to participate. If you have questions for legislators, email them to info@brookingschamber.org. Please contact the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce at (605) 692-8922 with any questions related to the event. Many thanks to our sponsors, Brookings Economic Development Corporation, Vision Brookings, and K
