Description
Join us on July 8 as Volga takes part in Sharing the Spirit Across America — a nationwide moment where communities across the country read the Declaration of Independence at the same time. We’ll gather at 4:45 PM, and the national reading begins at 5:00 PM CST with ten local readers representing organizations, youth, and civic leaders.
This tradition honors July 8, 1776, when the Declaration was first read aloud to the public in Philadelphia. That public reading allowed everyday Americans to hear, for the very first time, the words announcing independence and the belief that freedom and equality were rights worth standing for. By joining the national reading on July 8, our community helps carry forward that historic moment — celebrating the courage, unity, and American spirit that began on that day.
After the reading, stay for fellowship, food from The Patty Wagon, Chill Out shaved ice, and time at the memorial. Hosted by Burrows‑Young American Legion Post 114, the City of Volga, Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion, Brookings VFW, Volga Boy Scouts Troop 56, and Jordan Fast of Sioux Valley School District 05-5.
A few minutes of history. A shared moment of unity. A celebration of America. We hope you’ll join us
